Version history
A version is a copy of the whole Course at one moment: its Holes, Layouts, signs, Theme, Caddie Book content and your own elevation corrections. You can open a version to look at it, and restore it if something went wrong. Undo is still the tool for one Hole while you edit.
Version history opens from two places. Both show the same list:
- On the Project page, open the Course actions menu of the Course and choose Version history.
- In the Course, open the Course settings (the gear) and go to Versions. This works on a phone too.
Each version shows its name, or Automatic, why it was made, when, and who made it. Parkdly means Parkdly made it for you.
Saved and automatic versions
- Saved versions are the ones you make. Click Save version, give it a name and click Save. Parkdly never removes a saved version by itself. When all your saved slots are in use, saving asks which saved version to replace. Mark as published also saves one, named like the mark.
- Automatic versions are made by Parkdly before big changes: before a restore, before someone takes over editing, before importing from another Course or from Tjing, before applying a Theme, before replacing objects, before editing 5 or more signs at once, and once a day while the Course is being edited. When the automatic slots are full, the oldest automatic version is removed.
How many versions each Course keeps depends on the plan:
| Plan | Saved | Automatic |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 0 | 0 |
| Hobby | 1 | 2 |
| Club | 3 | 2 |
| Pro and Enterprise | 10 | 10 |
Who can do what
Owners and Admins can save, view, restore and delete versions. Editors can save versions and view them, but they cannot restore, delete or replace one. When the saved slots are full, an Editor sees a note that someone who manages the Course can remove one. Viewers do not see version history. See Team.
You can open the list while someone else is editing the Course.
View a version
Click View next to a version. The Course opens as it was then, and a bar at the top says which version you are looking at. You cannot change anything in it. Click Back to current to return to the Course as it is now, or Restore to bring the version back.
Restore a version
- Open the actions menu of the version and choose Restore.
- Click Restore.
Before restoring, Parkdly saves the Course as it is now as a Before restore version, so you can go back. Restoring keeps the Course's links: share links, QR codes, Caddie Books and connected apps keep working.
If the Course is linked to a partner app, restoring does not send anything to the app. The app keeps the earlier Course until you publish. After the restore, choose Publish in the message that appears, or use Publish in the Course toolbar later.
You cannot restore while someone else is editing the Course. Parkdly tells you who is editing; restore once they have finished.
Versions do not keep the satellite image or the sampled terrain. If the restored Course covers a different map area, Parkdly fetches a new satellite image and samples the terrain again by itself.
Restore a version as a copy
To keep the Course as it is and get the earlier version back next to it, open the actions menu of the version and choose Restore as copy. Parkdly makes a new Course in the same Project and opens it. It is named after the Course and the version, for example "Oak Park (Spring)". An unnamed version uses its date.
The copy follows the same rules as copying a Course: it has no share links and no connection to partner apps, its Caddie Books are unpublished, and QR codes stay as they are. It takes the satellite image and terrain of the current Course. If the version covers a different map area, Parkdly fetches them for that area. The current Course does not change, and you can do this while someone else is editing it.
The copy is a new Course, so it counts toward your plan's Course limit. Owners and Admins can restore as a copy, except an Admin of only this Course: they cannot add Courses to the Project.
Delete a version
Open the actions menu of the version, choose Delete and confirm. This frees its slot. You cannot undo it.
