Holes and boundaries
This page is the reference for options on Holes and Boundaries. To place them for the first time, see Add Holes and Add Boundaries.
Holes
Tee rotation
A new Tee turns itself to line up with its Flight Path. Its throwing edge follows the line where the path leaves the Tee. When the path has no points, the edge points at the Target.
When you drag a point on the path, or the Tee itself, the Tee turns as you drag. Every Tee on your map and signs stays in line with its Flight Path.
- Rotate a Tee by hand with the rotation handle on the Canvas or the Rotation field. The Tee then stops turning by itself, and you see a short note.
- Turn auto-rotation on again with the Auto-rotate switch under Size & rotation. Or right-click the Tee (press and hold on a phone) and choose Auto-rotate. The Tee turns to face its Flight Path immediately.
- Several Layouts from one Tee: the Tee faces the average of their directions. If the directions are more than 90° apart, no single direction suits all of them. The Tee then keeps the rotation you set, and the details panel says so.
Tees that existed before auto-rotation keep the rotation you gave them, with Auto-rotate off.
Tee and target size
Every Tee and Target has a real size in meters. You do not have to measure anything. A new Tee uses a standard 1.5 × 3 m pad. A new Target uses the standard 0.65 m width.
Some Holes differ. One example is a wide concrete Pro pad next to a narrow AM pad. Another is a practice Target that is bigger than normal. To set the real size, select the Tee or Target on the Canvas. Then set its measurements in the details panel:
- Tee — under Size & rotation, set the Width and Length of the pad. Width is the edge you throw from. Length runs down the Flight Path. A square pad has the same number twice.
- Target — under Target size, set the Diameter. This is the Target itself. Green radius, in its own section, is the green around it.
Doubling a measurement doubles it on the map. A pad you set to 3 m looks twice as wide as a 1.5 m pad. Leave a field empty to return to the standard size.
These are measurements, not styling. You set how big Tees, Targets, and mandos are drawn once for each course in your Theme, under Element sizes. This includes a True size option that draws them at their exact real measurements.
Boundaries
A Boundary marks an area or a line with a rule, such as Out of Bounds (OB), Hazard, Casual Area, or Required Relief Area. Boundaries appear on Tee Signs and Info Boards. Select any point of a Boundary to open its details panel.
Restricted side
Short ticks along the Boundary show which side is out of bounds (or hazard, casual, or relief). A new area marks its inside, however you drew it. A new line starts on its left side as you drew it.
In the details panel, Restricted side picks Inside or Outside for an area. For a line, it flips the side. The row of each Hole has the same button, to change the side for that Hole only.
When you turn a line into an area, or an area into a line, the ticks stay where they are. A Boundary whose Holes disagree about the side shows no ticks when no Hole is selected.
Smooth curves
Parkdly draws a new Boundary as a smooth curve through the points you place. This suits a pond edge or a tree line. The curve still passes through every point.
For a road or fence edge, turn off Smooth in the details panel. Parkdly then draws straight segments between the points. Boundaries that you drew before smoothing existed stay straight until you turn Smooth on.
Lines made of several Boundaries
Boundaries of the same type can run along the same stretch. This happens, for example, when two Holes each drew the same OB line. Parkdly draws the shared stretch once.
When one Boundary ends and the next one starts at the same spot, Parkdly draws them as one continuous line with evenly spaced ticks.
This happens in the editor, on signs, and in Caddie Books. Your Boundaries themselves do not change. Two kinds of Boundary stay as separate lines:
- Boundaries that restrict different sides.
- A Boundary you are editing.
Show a Boundary on some Layouts only
A Boundary can apply to specific Layouts. Select any point on the Boundary and pick the Layouts it should appear on. Leave the scope empty to show the Boundary on every Layout.
This helps when a rule applies to only one division or season. One example is an OB line that applies only to the Pro Layout. You still set the visibility and the restricted side for each Hole in the same panel.
Mandatory (Mando)
A Mandatory (Mando) works differently from other Boundaries. You place it directly on the Canvas and link it to a specific Hole. You do not draw it as an area or a line. Its tool is in the Holes menu, after Add additional target.
On the published whole-course overview (course map and Info Board), only the mando marker shows. Its line draws on the view of the Hole and on the Tee Sign, so lines never cross into neighboring Holes. While you edit in the Studio, you still see every mando line on the overview, so you can check where each one points.
The Visible on card of the mando has a Course map toggle. Use it to hide the mando from the overview completely.
A mando can also apply to one or more Layouts. It then appears only when those Layouts are active. Leave the scope empty to show it on every Layout.
